Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

DVT

Deep Vein Thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a particular vein that serves as a primary channel for blood to flow from the legs to the heart. DVT can have serious consequences, including a Pulmonary Embolism (PE). This occurs when the clot breaks free and travels to the lungs, causing a lung blockage. PE can cause permanent damage to the vein valves, and can even be fatal in the most serious cases. DVT often occurs without any warning, earning DVT the label of the ‘silent killer.’

Often times DVT symptoms can be mistaken for prevalent post-surgical reactions such as muscle tenderness or pain, skin discoloration, or tightness and/or swelling. There are various confounding factors that can increase the liklihood of DVT, including hip or leg surgeries. Trutech Medical’s VCU system was designed to include features that help reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis.
